Summer is here

Summer is finally on its way!  As much as we all love to enjoy the beautiful weather and soak up the sun, we should take certain precautions.

First, make sure you are using sunscreen on a daily basis, even if it's not a sunny day.  It's best to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen, meaning one that protects from both UVA and UVB rays.  Usually physical sunscreens are more effective than chemical sunscreens, so choose a sunscreen that contains either zinc oxide or titanium dioxide.  Also try to reapply generously either every 2 hours while in the sun, or more often if you're in a pool or water.

Wearing a wide brim hat and sunglasses is a great idea.  Try to limit the amount of time you're in direct sun between 10am-2pm, when the sun's exposure is most intense.  And stay away from tanning beds.  Lastly, don't forget that certain medications or products can make you more sensitive to the sun.

So go ahead and enjoy the beautiful weather coming up, but be prepared and protect yourself!
